We would like to inform you that one of our members has encountered an attempt to defraud money from fraudsters impersonating the Polish Patent Office.
The fraudsters observe the Internet portal of the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland and send forged documents directly to companies that have cases pending at the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, e.g. are in the process of registering a logo.
In doing so, the fraudsters refer to persons actually employed by the Polish Patent Office.
The correspondence is sent to the addressees in paper form, by ordinary mail.
The fraudsters expect payment in euros.
Below is the information provided by the Polish Patent Office on this case:
a. do not pay the requested amount, the Polish Patent Office has one bank account number: NBP O/O Warsaw: 93 1010 1010 0025 8322 3100 0000 and does not collect fees in a currency other than PLN,
b. Under current regulations, the deadline for payment of the fee for the first period of protection is 3 months from the date of service of the decision granting the right of protection for the trade mark,
c. the certificate of protection is sent only after the legal fees have been paid and the right has been entered in the relevant register. It is never sent at the same time as the decision to grant the trade mark,
d. an appropriate warning is posted on the website of the Polish Patent Office https://uprp.gov.pl/pl.
We would also like to inform that the Office has introduced an additional security measure in the form of attaching a QR code to decisions issued by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, which makes it possible to verify the authenticity of correspondence: https://uprp.gov.pl/pl/aktualnosci/informacje/zabezpieczenie-korespondencji-kodem-qr.
With the above in mind, the Polish Patent Office recommends extreme caution.
