On April 15, 2025, the Local Government Finance Congress will host a debate entitled. “Clusters, cooperatives and local energy communities. Where are we at this point?” (12:30-13:30), during which experts and representatives of public institutions will discuss the most important challenges and opportunities for the development of civic energy in Poland. A representative of the Mazovian ICT Cluster, Robert Edward Szlęzak, will speak at the debate.
Key discussion topics:
– Legal and infrastructure barriers – What regulations and administrative procedures slow down the development of energy communities the most? Is the current grid infrastructure in the regions, including Pomerania, ready to accommodate decentralized energy?
– Cooperation with DSOs – What models of partnership with Distribution System Operators can facilitate the integration of local energy sources into the grid?
– The role of local governments – What actions at the local level can realistically support the development of energy communities? How to increase awareness, education and involvement of local residents?
– Modern technologies and solutions – What technologies can accelerate the development of civic energy in the region? Energy storage, virtual power plants, and smart energy management systems, among others, will be discussed.
– Funding and business models – What sources of funding – national, EU and private – are currently available for Pomeranian initiatives? Will innovative models such as blockchain or peer-to-peer systems find practical application?
– Heat balancing – Is it possible to effectively balance heat within local energy areas?
The debate will be preceded by an introductory speech by Stanislaw Szultka, Director of the Department of Economic Development at UMWP and lecturer at the University of Gdansk.
